The Civic Center Music Hall, a must-see performing arts center first built in 1937, offers live music programs and theater experiences in a historical setting. At the Boathouse District in downtown OKC, you’ll find Riversport, offering nature’s rollercoasters: whitewater rafting, ziplining and kayaking! Or, visit the Oklahoma History Center in the heart of the city if you’re more in the mood for hands-on learning about the state’s Native Americans (as a frontier city, OKC has a storied history, told in part through the Museum’s American Indian Records).
If museums are more your beat, OKC has got the lot of them. Oklahoma City Museum of Art showcases European and American art (the Dale Chihuly exhibit alone is worth the trip). The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum honors and remembers the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
Speaking of frontiers, check out Frontier City theme park, a destination for thrilling rides and a Wild West-themed water park, located just west of Monarch Highway. (There’s also a Hurricane Harbor located nearby for even more watery fun.) East of Hurricane Harbor, the Scissortail Park showcases family fun around every corner: here, you can find swimming, pickle ball and more. If you’re west of downtown check out the Oklahoma National Stockyards, where you’ll find the largest stockers and feeders. Finally, being in the heart of the Midwest, OKC is rooted in the art of a good steak — be sure to visit any one of the many and outstanding steakhouses in the area, before or after taking in the infamously sweeping Oklahoma City skyline!
