Reclining sofas are among the most comfortable pieces of furniture you can purchase. After all, only a reclining sofa gives you the option of sitting down and tucking into your book or leaning back, kicking your feet up, and watching some TV, or better yet, just catching a quick nap before dinner.
Reclining sofas are the epitome of comfort. They’re made to give you a versatile place to take a load off. Covered in deep, inviting cushions, reclining couches are the perfect piece of furniture for the family room.
We offer a large variety of reclining sofas. Whether you’re looking for leather or cloth or looking to seat a few people or an entire family, we have the right couch for you. They’re also available in many different colors, so you’ll be able to find the perfect couch to match the rest of your furniture. And, if you’re redecorating wholesale, many of our reclining sofas are available as part of a set.
If you’re looking for the epitome of relaxation, look no further. It doesn’t matter if you live alone, with roommates, or have a growing family; reclining sofas are the perfect focal point for the most comfortable living rooms.
A Note on Material
Reclining sofas aren't just functional – they're also stylish, especially when paired with interesting textures! Throw a soft microfiber pillow on the seat of a leather reclining sofa for texture contrast. (Or reverse the texture feels: try a smooth leather or faux leather pillow on a soft fabric or microfiber seat.) Styling different materials together, whether through throw pillows or blankets, makes your sofa as cozy as possible.
Styling Your Reclining Sofa
- With a loveseat: A reclining sofa on one side of the room and a loveseat on the other adds just the right amount of seating for the whole family without taking up a lot of space. This arrangement is perfect for small spaces.
- With a sectional: If a reclining sofa isn’t enough and you live with five or more people, try adding a sectional. Even if you have a small household, a sectional is always a great seating option to have on hand for when you entertain a bigger group of guests.
- With a chaise: Along one wall, place the reclining sectional; along the wall adjoining, place a chaise. A chaise is great for when all you want to add is a single seat – but want something with more panache than the traditional accent chair.
Types of Reclining Sofas
There are two main types of the reclining function: manual reclining and power reclining. Manual reclining does not use power, and instead operates with the use of a lever and physical force. Power reclining uses power – either through an electric wall outlet or battery.
Framework of Reclining Sofas
Each reclining sofa comes with a backrest, armrests on either side and seats. Certain styles will contain center consoles for storing remotes, books and what-have-you’s. While not as common, reclining sofas can also include extendable footrests.
Reclining Sofa vs. Reclining Loveseat
Sofas and loveseats are similar in that they provide an efficient and comfortable place to seat more than one person. The one difference between them is size: while sofas typically seat three people, loveseats typically seat two. There are exceptions to the rule, especially when it comes to the sizes of the people being seated. (An example of an exception to the rule when it comes to a person’s size: fewer adults can fit into a loveseat than children!)
What Difference Will a Reclining Sofa Make?
You have a traditional sofa – and you’re comfortable with it. You’ve been living with it for the past x amount of years, and it’s done (and continues to do) its job. The people you have over for parties or hangouts have never once complained about the comfort of it, a sign that it is reliable for seating a wide variety of people. Even when you are home alone and spread out across its length, watching shows or movies or taking a nap, it feels like a familiar friend who knows just how you like to relax.
Why, then, should you get rid of your old sofa and replace it with a reclining version? First of all, you don’t have to do anything – but we like to think there are a couple of great reasons for upgrading a years-old piece that you may not have considered up until now:
- You’re used to your old sofa. It is something you’ve known for years and years, and, just like with people, sometimes when you live with something for years and years it’s hard to see the changes that take place over time. In a sofa, cushions can deplete, fames can loosen, dust and bacteria and accumulate and fabric can wear down – but all of these minor changes take place slowly over time. Just because you know your sofa doesn’t mean it’s performing the best it can in its current state.
- You like to nap. It’s basic ergonomics: when the body is reclined, the muscles can more easily relax. On a traditional (non-reclining) sofa, getting into a reclined position will either place pressure on your lower back or involve twisting or warping of the spine. On a reclining sofa, no movement of the spine is needed – only movement of the sofa itself!
- You want to breathe more easily. All sofas have cushions, which means that all sofas have cracks between the cushions – hotbeds for dust and other gross stuff. The longer you have had your sofa, the more likely it is that these “gross things” have multiplied, and after a certain threshold, even deep cleaning is hard-pressed to remove years of settled, microscopic dirt. This means that sitting on a very old sofa can actually affect the air you breathe, especially for allergy-prone individuals. Changing out an old sofa no matter how well-loved it is can improve the way you physically feel.
- You prefer to work from the couch. If a desk and chair isn’t your style and you find yourself with laptop on lap curled up on sofa, then investing in a reclining sofa will make it easier to keep good posture – and prevent back issues down the road. Sitting for long periods of time, it’s crucial to keep good form, and where a non-reclining sofa can’t give you just the angle you need for lower back relief, a reclining sofa most definitely can.
- You feel like it’s time. Sometimes, if a sofa is old enough, no matter how comfy it is, it will let you know it’s time for a change. Perhaps it’s the way you feel when you walk into the room with the sofa – familiarity isn’t always good for mental health, and a new change can be the best thing for a refreshed mood.
- You want a genuine home theater experience. Finally, a reclining sofa provides that genuine home theater feel. Just like in a real movie theater, all it takes is the touch of a button to lean back and let the screen take over; while a traditional sofa provides you a great place to sit, it can’t transform your living room into a cinematic experience!
