Reclining Loveseat
Whether leather or fabric, reclining loveseats – which are two-seat sofas with reclining capabilities and adjustable positioning – bring leisure and repose to the home. Immerse yourself in the plush comfort of a reclining loveseat!
How to Style a Reclining Loveseat with a Sofa
A room with a reclining loveseat and sofa gives you a few options. For one, the L-shaped design layout – pairing the loveseat and sofa so they form a 90-degree angle – is a timeless classic.
Another trend places the loveseat and sofa so that they face each other. Due to the imbalance (a full sofa is longer than a loveseat), this is a little trickier to pull off. However, with strategic placement of accent pieces to fill the remaining space, a loveseat-facing couch delivers a chic-meets-relaxed flair.
How a Reclining Loveseat Works
Most reclining loveseats are power reclining loveseats, which means that no extra physical exertion is needed to operate the reclining capabilities. A typical reclining loveseat will feature an easy-to-access button built into one side of its design, usually under the armrest. Some models also come with a remote control. Many power models also feature the ability to adjust the position of the headrest for the ultimate in ergonomic comfort.
While power reclining models are becoming the norm, some reclining loveseats are designed for manual use. In a manual design, a pull-lever controlling the reclining motions is usually built into the side of the loveseat.
Reclining Loveseats with Smart Features
On its own, a reclining loveseat packs unlimited amounts of reclining positions for ergonomic support – but if you want to take your ‘smart’ furniture game up a notch, consider a reclining loveseat with USB ports! Whether it’s built into a center console or on the side (under the armrest), a USB port (or two) makes for effortless ‘tech-friendly’ lounging.
How to Style a Reclining Loveseat for Small Spaces
When the reclining loveseat is the biggest piece and main seating in a living room, you want it to stand out without overpowering your space. This is easily accomplished with the compact design of a reclining loveseat – especially when compared to the loftier dimensions of a traditional sofa.
When styling with a reclining loveseat, size is the most essential factor. While it’s important to consider the color, shape and material of a reclining loveseat, none of that matters if the sofa doesn’t fit. Check the dimensions of your dream loveseat – and measure your space – to make sure that it will seamlessly adapt to your living room.
Remember, too, to account for the space needed for the loveseat to recline fully. A reclining loveseat offers unlimited positions for ergonomic comfort and support – but none of that will matter if a wall or furniture piece blocks the recliner’s pathway!
Contrast Is Key
When styling a piece of furniture, pay attention to contrast of material. If your power loveseat is leather or faux leather, its surface is taut and smooth – and a textured, softer material will bring stylish contrast. For smooth pieces, try soft and furry accents such as chenille pillows or a microfiber throw blanket.
Types of Reclining Features
Look out for these not-as-common design types when choosing a reclining loveseat:
- Manual reclining. Manual versions do not require power, a great, simple option if you are okay with operating the reclining function yourself (usually via a lever on the side, applied with force of the hand).
- Dual reclining. This means that both seats of the loveseat can recline independently of each other. If one is down, the other can remain up, and vice versa.
How to Arrange a Reclining Loveseat
Add these types of furniture pieces to a room with a reclining loveseat.
- Sectional: A 2 seater reclining loveseat along one wall and a four seater sectional along the other provides enough seating to go around – and then some.
- Glider chair: Style a glider chair next to a reclining sofa for an extra seat – that moves. Unlike a traditional accent chair, a glider chair glides back and forth, and if you don’t want to invest in a reclining chair to go with your loveseat, a glider chair is a more affordable alternative.
- Reclining sofa: Featuring an extra seat cushion for more room to sit, a reclining sofa is a larger option to match with your loveseat.
Common Colors in Reclining Loveseats
Reclining furniture comes in shades of neutrals. Dark brown, beige, white, ivory and charcoal are the most common hues you can expect to find when shopping for a reclining loveseat. The good news is that these shades match with everything – making styling into your home a breeze.
